[The story of TANNY]

Grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc

The vineyards of the Tartani winery are located in the Pyrenees region on the west side of the Great Dividing Range in Victoria. The local scenery is extremely beautiful. The settlers who settled in Europe in the early days praised it as “the natural garden of Victoria”. . The rolling hills and flowers here are like flowers and the seasons are like spring. This gentle slope is very suitable for the cultivation and growth of many grape varieties. The winery is an advocate of sustainable agriculture in Australia and is dedicated to protecting soil, air, water and energy. The insect museum in Pontani is the winery's greatest contribution to sustainable agriculture, and 2000 native plants provide a large amount of pollen to local beneficial insects. Beneficial insects eat eggs from harmful insects, reducing the use of pesticides by 70-80%.

The wines produced by the winery are not only unique in texture, rich in taste, but also very European. Many wines have won gold awards at various international wine competitions, such as the famous Royal Melbourne Show and the Los Angeles Times International Best Red Wine. Wine is often awarded numerous awards in the international market. Since the first commercial release in 1977, Pontagne has been using a logo--17th century medal, a pictogram used by ancient people to wear their neck to protect their reputation and identity. The use of the bottle in Ventani shows our cherishment of the Fontani brand. Our wines are approachable/easy to drink when young, but at the same time there is enough tannin structure and balance to make the wines storable. Statani's eternal commitment is to create an elegant and balanced style of fine wines, and to showcase the region's terroir and grape variety characteristics.

Statani history

The first grape in the Avoca region was planted in Edwin Makereth in 1887 (farmers and gold diggers). The Great Depression of the 1940s and World War II caused the grape growing industry in Avoca to die. In the 1960s, Walter Henning teamed up with local merchants to find areas suitable for growing grapes and eventually locked in the Moonambel area. This is a milestone in the formation of the Polaris production area. In 1969, Tani began planting grapes on 1,700 acres.

John Goelet, who is far from the other end of the globe, is a member of the Bordeaux wine merchant, Guestier Wine Merchant, and now has four wineries around the world. His passion for wine and his spirit of exploration have driven him to find the best wine regions around the world. In 1972, the Bernard & Dominique Portet brothers arrived in Australia with the support of Mr. Goelet and were carefully selected. Finally, the location of the winery in the northwest of Victoria was selected. The Portet brother's father, Andre, worked as a technical manager for the French Lafite winery in 1955-1975. My father had a profound influence on the winemaking philosophy of the two brothers. The reason for choosing Pontagne is because it is like Bordeaux. Soil and climate ensure that vineyards can grow a variety of grapes and have the potential to produce world-class wines. The earliest was the cultivation of Bordeaux grape varieties, which later expanded into sparkling wine and Sauvignon Blanc. The winery began to be established and 1977 was the first vintage. The strong wines of Tannin received a lot of recognition in 1979. After 40 years, I tasted the 1977 vintage again, and the structure of the tannin is still full, very delicate and soft.

Vineyard information

position

Located 225 km northwest of Melbourne, the Polaris Wine Region. The winery is one of the pioneers and explorers of the region. The vineyard was purchased in 1973 and has an excellent planting environment with approximately 250 acres of vineyards.

Grape variety

The main grape varieties include,

Sparkling wine: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir

Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon: Grapevines from the Great Western Region of 1868

Other: Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Pino Monnier

soil

The soil types are gravel, yellow-red clay and loam, white siltstone and quartz. The loam provides a large amount of nutrients and allows the soil to retain moisture, and the gravel component makes the soil highly drainable. In cold years, quartz stone will give some mineral flavor to sparkling wine and white wine, adding complexity. Siltstone is important for growing Bordeaux and sparkling wine grapes.

surroundings

Wine writer Robert Joseph describes the winery of Ventani: one of the most beautiful wineries on the planet. To ensure the protection of the winery environment, the winery is dedicated to reducing the impact of human intervention on the vineyard environment. The IPM project, jointly with the University of Melbourne, further builds the vineyard into an ecological vineyard with few human interventions.

Sustainable development strategy

Statani is the leader in the sustainable development of vineyards. Committed to protecting soil, air, water and energy to produce quality grapes. The Insect Museum of Pontani is a plant belt containing more than 2,000 native plants. Native plants produce pollen that is beneficial to insects and attracts beneficial insects to thrive in the vineyards. Beneficial insects eat eggs from harmful insects and reduce the number of harmful insects. In turn, the use of pesticides and chemicals in the vineyards is reduced. 70-80% less usage than the average vineyard. Really achieved sustainable development.

climate

At 37 degrees south latitude, the average altitude is over 400 meters (between 375 and 450). The vine is located in the best grape growing belt in the southern hemisphere. The grapes are planted in high places on gentle slopes, keeping the grapes away from frost and disease.
